“Peter Obi inciting his mob to make death threats against me” – APC spokesman

Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has accused Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, of inciting online harassment and death threats against him and his family.

Morka’s statement came in response to Obi’s claims on his verified X account that threats against his life, family, and associates had intensified following his New Year message.

Obi alleged that Morka had accused him of “crossing the line” and warned he would “face consequences” during an appearance on Arise TV on January 4, 2025.

In a rebuttal on Tuesday, January 7, Morka denied Obi’s accusations, describing them as “malicious lies” and “attention-seeking emotional blackmail.”

He maintained that his comments during the AriseTV interview were taken out of context and did not constitute any threat against Obi or his family.

“Nothing I said in that interview or elsewhere remotely suggests a threat against Mr. Obi or anyone.

“The verbatim transcript of my response shows that my remarks were limited to critiquing his political rhetoric and baseless economic commentary,” Morka stated.

Morka had criticized Obi’s comments during the interview, accusing him of being “irrational” and “maliciously deceptive” in his criticisms of the Tinubu administration.

He defended his statement that Obi had “crossed the line so many times and has coming to him whatever he gets” as a response to the former governor’s alleged use of inflammatory language, including labelling the administration as “voodoo economics.”

Morka alleged that Obi’s public claims had incited his online supporters, whom he described as a “restless mob,” to issue threats and engage in harassment against him and his family.

“By falsely claiming that I threatened his life, Mr. Obi has incited his online mob to make death threats against me and my family. This is not only unacceptable but reprehensible,” Morka said.

He criticized Obi for failing to condemn the behaviour of his supporters, whom he accused of bullying and intimidating critics of the Labour Party’s political stance.

“Mr. Obi has crossed the line of truth in his many assessments. His constant flip-flops and refusal to acknowledge progress demonstrate a lack of principled commitment and raise concerns about his leadership capabilities,” Morka said.

Morka called on Obi to immediately withdraw his allegations and issue a public clarification. He warned that he was prepared to pursue legal action to protect his reputation if the claims were not retracted.

“Obi’s actions undermine democratic values and the sacred trust of the Nigerian people. He must act responsibly and refrain from peddling falsehoods in his quest for political relevance,” Morka concluded.
