PDP Moves to Reclaim Abia State in 2027, Forms “Shadow” House of Assembly, Names Speaker

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has taken a bold step towards reclaiming the state in 2027 by forming a Shadow House of Assembly.

The move is aimed at promoting accountability in governance and preparing the party for the upcoming elections.

According to the Chairman of the party, Abraham Amah, the Shadow House of Assembly will be led by Solomon Akpulonu, the member representing Obingwa East State constituency, as the Speaker. Amah made this announcement during a PDP stakeholders’ meeting at the party’s secretariat in Umuahia on Tuesday.

The PDP Chairman said that the party will write a letter to the Abia State House of Assembly within the next 48 hours, notifying them of the formation of the Shadow House of Assembly. He urged the Abia State House of Assembly to comply with the PDP-formed Shadow Assembly, as per democratic principles.

Amah also seized the opportunity to clear the air on the current state of insecurity in the state, stating that the PDP or the opposition are not behind it.

In addition to the formation of the Shadow House of Assembly, the Abia PDP has set up a reconciliation committee co-chaired by Abraham Amah and Peter Aguomba. The committee’s primary objective is to reconcile all aggrieved party members and possibly bring back those who left in anger to other political parties after the 2023 polls.

The PDP Chairman expressed his optimism about the party’s chances in the 2027 elections, stating that the umbrella party is repositioning to reclaim Abia State. “We are taking all these steps to return this political party to Government by 2027,” he said.

Amah commended the stakeholders and all members of the party in the State for keeping faith and urged them to sustain the unity.
