PDP cannot win election if I leave – Wike

As the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, continues to deepen, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has said the party cannot win the 2023 presidential election without his input.

Wike said he and four other governors play an important role in PDP; hence the party can’t win elections without them.

He made the declaration during a media chat in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Friday.

Wike, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, have been calling for the removal of Iyorchia Ayu as PDP’s National Chairman.

The governors had insisted that PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and National Chairman, Ayu cannot come from the same region.

However, Wike said he and his team were committed to making an impact at the party.

According to the governor, PDP won some states due to his financial support.

“If I leave the party today, the PDP cannot win the election. If the five PDP governors say they are leaving today, we are not just ordinary governors, we are very committed and strong.

“There is nobody that wants to win an election and still continue the way they are doing. I have supported many states financially to win elections in the past, including Plateau, Ondo, and Cross Rivers and they cannot deny it”.
