Oyo APC appoints Alhaji Moshood Abas as acting chairman

The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed Alhaji Moshood Olayide Abas as its new acting chairman, following the death of former chairman, Barr. Isaac Omodewu.

Abas, who previously held the position of deputy state chairman, was elevated to his new role during an emergency meeting of the APC’s State Executive Committee on Monday, September 16, 2024.

His appointment was announced by the party’s publicity secretary, Olawale Sadare, at the state secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan.

The announcement stated that Abas’ elevation was in line with the party’s constitution, which mandates the deputy chairman to assume the leadership role in the event of the chairman’s passing. Abas was elected alongside Omodewu during the APC State Congress in October 2021.

Sadare highlighted Abas’ long-standing political career, noting his early involvement with the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) in the 1970s, and his mentorship under the late Bola Ige.

Abas also previously served as the Executive Chairman of the old Ifeloju Local Government Area and held leadership positions under the Action Congress (AC) and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
