Ortom calls for calm as supporters attack Benue govt over alleged harassment

The immediate past Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has urged his supporters attacking Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration to remain calm.

Recall that the present administration had accused Ortom and others who worked with him of looting the state’s resources.

The erstwhile governor was on June 21 2023 invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over the allegations.

Similarly, some properties belonging to the state government were allegedly recovered from the former governor.

Vexed by what they termed as harassment, Ortom’s supporters have continued to make derogatory statements against the incumbent governor and his team.

But Ortom, in a statement issued on Wednesday by his media aide, Terver Akase, urged the supporters to remain calm, adding that they should not heat up the polity.

The former Governor stated that he is capable of responding to the issues being raised against him and other officials of the previous government and has always made known his belief in the rule of law.

He reiterated his readiness to make himself available to respond to issues bordering on his administration whenever the need arises.
