One killed as armed men attack Benue community

‎One person has been killed following an attack by some armed men on Mbasa community in Utange Council Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.


‎The assailants, suspected to be members of an armed militia group, invaded the community and opened fire on residents. Several people sustained injuries, while some homes were set ablaze.


‎A military source confirmed that troops from Sector 1 Command, in collaboration with operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guards, responded swiftly to repel the attack.


‎According to the source, a distress call was received around 8:30 a.m. on June 4, prompting immediate deployment of security operatives to the scene.


‎An on-the-ground assessment revealed that one resident lost his life, while several houses were razed.


‎Two empty 7.62mm special ammunition shells were recovered from the scene after the attackers fled.


‎The deceased’s remains were handed over to relatives for burial according to local traditions.


‎Security agencies have assured community leaders and residents that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
