Ondo Assembly strengthens Amotekun Corps with amended bill

The Ondo State House of Assembly has passed a bill to amend the Ondo State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps law 2022.

The members also passed a bill for the establishment of the Ondo State Security Trust Fund.

The passage followed the submission of reports by the Chairman, House Committee on Security, Ololade Gbegudu.

He noted that the committee carried out a thorough scrutiny before making recommendations.

Gbegudu said sections 4, 5, 6, 14, 16 and 18 of the Principal law were amended.

Majority Leader Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi moved the motion for the passage and was seconded by Oluyede Feyide from Ose Local Government.

The lawmakers unanimously gave their endorsement through a voice vote, according to reports.

The legislature mandated the provision of special equipment, training and retraining for Amotekun personnel.

The House approved effective public private partnership for crime prevention and eradication in Ondo.

Joint border patrols with neighbouring States under the leadership of the State Commandant was also authorized.
