The So-Safe Corps in Ogun State says it has arrested “a notorious robbery kingpin” and recovered four rifles.
The Commander of the Corps, Soji Ganzallo, in a statement made available through the corps spokesman, Moruf Yusuf, disclosed that the suspect was arrested Wednesday at about 10am.
According to Ganzallo, his officers on routine patrol had apprehended the 32-year-old suspect, Mr Obani Desmond, a resident of 25, Agunbiade Street, Orija, Abule-Iroko, in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.
The So-Safe boss explained that the man was nabbed while trying to burgle a building at 2, Ayo Ogunbanwo Street in the same Abule-Iroko.
It was stated that the suspect had “evaded arrest on several occasions, but nemesis caught up with him” on July 12 as he tried to hide again at the scene of robbery.
Ganzallo revealed that the suspect had “speedily confessed” that he was at the building “to steal gold jewelry”.
“Without torture, he promised to show the team where he kept the arms he uses to perpetrate the crimes he is known for,” he stated.
Ganzallo disclosed that before So-Safe operatives arrived at the place he kept his arms, “his wife, Mrs Simbi Temitope Desmond, has taken three out of the four arms (one local single and two double-barrelled pistols) and kept them in the nearby room,” leaving one pistol.
However, all the four arms were recovered with five live ammunition, as well as nine used and five live cartridges.
He added that the suspect had confessed to having taken part in different deadly attacks in Ogun and Lagos States.
The suspect had mentioned one Mr Jeje as the one in custody of the team’s AK-47 rifle.
Desmond and the exhibits recovered had been transferred to the police in Agbado division for further investigation.
