… Tasks Officers to display professionalism

Fifty-three newly promoted Senior Officers of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, have been decorated to their ranks of Assistant Commandant Generals, ACGs and Commandants.
In a ceremony held yesterday at its Headquarters in Abuja, to decorate the Eight Assistant Commandant Generals and Forty-five Commandants, Commandant General, NSCDC, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi charged the officers and men to display high level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties during and after the general election.
Audi who stated that promotion comes from God, admonished the newly promoted officers to always observe the rules of engagement and code of conduct in their daily operational engagements.
He advised the officers to put in new vigor of commitment to the actualisation of the Corp’s mandate also warning that he would not tolerate any conduct inimical to the corporate image of the Corp.
He said that promotion was given to those who had worked assiduously in their various duties and called on Officers and men of the Corp to avoid administrative hypocrisy.
“The corps under my watch has upgraded a lot of officers denied promotion for several years. In two years as the corp’s Commandant there has been a tremendous change in areas of promotion and payment of arrears.
“This promotion is on merit. Any one found culpable after the promotion will be demoted. The officers bring promoted have worked assiduously to deserve the promotion. Promotion to the rank of Commandant is key and sensitive.”
The CG also urged them to promote the spirit of mentorship to impact and equip junior officers for the task ahead saying that, “One must demonstrate highest level of loyalty and dedication. You should also mentor young ones under you. Any leader who does not mentor does not deserve promotion.”
Speaking after the ceremony, the Director, Public Relations of the Corp, Cmdt Olusola Odumosu who was promoted to the rank of Commandant said the promotion would spur them to do more for the corps.
Odumosu also expressed gratitude on behalf of other newly promoted Senior Officers to the CG and the Management of the Corp while pledging more commitment to their newly assigned duties.
Also, the Secretary, Civil Defence, Immigration and Prisons Service Board, CDIPB, Aisha Rufai, who said the process of the promotion exercise was thorough and transparent stated that, “the promotion is not about who you know, but what you can offer. A lot of officers did well and that is why they are here today.”
Adding that, “Those of you who did not make it will also have another time to to showcase what they can offer in the next exercise.”
