A 49-year-old man, Muhammad Hamisu, a notorious burglar, has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, in Jigawa State.
Spokesman of the NSCDC in the State, CSC Adamu Shehu confirmed the arrest to newsmen.
He said the suspect was arrested on Saturday morning by a group of shop owners whose shops were earlier burgled at Zakariyya Plaza in Dutse.
Adamu said the shop owners trapped and caught the suspect while breaking a shop.
He said upon interrogation, the suspect who is into key cutting and duplicating business, confessed to have boarded a taxi from Kano State on Friday, 28th July, 2023, with the intent to steal.
According to him, “The suspect joined water vendors who usually slept within the shops and pretended to be one of them.
“But unknown to him, one of the shop owners was suspicious of him and decided to keep a close eye until he saw him sneaking and moving towards the shops, using tools and breaking open one of the shop’s doors and gaining entry.
“The shop owner, therefore, shouted for help from his colleagues and eventually caught the suspect while trying to escape”
Adamu explained that the suspect was arrested in possession of 99 different sets of keys, an iron rod cutter, a plier, a wheel spanner, four pieces of padlocks, two iron rod tools, a folding knife, a mobile handset, a torchlight, an ATM card and four pieces of sacks meant for packing and concealing stolen property.
