NSCDC Arrests Additional 11 Suspected Looters in Kano

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Kano State command, have arrested additional 11 suspects for vandalising and looting the Nigerian Communications Commission Digital Industrial Park in Kano on Thursday.

This is contained in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, on behalf of the state Commandant, a copy of which was made available to The Punch on Friday.

He said the suspects were nabbed following credible intelligence from men of the NSCDC’S intelligence and investigation department of miscreants alleged to have vandalized/looted facilities at soon to be commissioned Digital Industrial Park, Nigerian Communication Commission.

“Seven suspects have so far been arrested in possession of items comprising computer desktop sets, keyboards, LCD TV, executive chairs, doors, window frames, drawers etc. The arrest was effected by men of Anti Vandalism, armed squad and operations department of the Corps,” the statement said.

He said the suspects were believed to have vandalised and stole the items on Thursday in the wake of the protests, concealed them in a location within Audu Bako Secretariat complex beside Kano line motor park.

According to the Abdullahi, the suspects were retrieving the stolen products when personnel of the Corps pounced on and picked them up.

“Additionally, four suspected criminals who vandalised state road dual carriageway iron demarcating shields have been captured while conveying the looted goods to an unknown destination,” he added.

However, operatives of the NSCDC on patrol duty on Friday by 1130hrs have successfully recovered a 50KVA Mikano generator from hoodlums in Dorayi who vandalised the set and were whisking it away but on sighting our men, they abandoned it and took to their heels.

The generator supplied electricity to streetlights at Dorayi quarters, Gwale LGA.

He said an investigation has been launched with a view to take legal actions against the offenders.

“The NSCDC, Kano command under the leadership of Commandant Mohammed Falala intensifies efforts in guarding critical national assets and public utilities in the state,” he added.

He, therefore, warned criminals to stay away from vandalising public infrastructure as anyone caught will be arrested and prosecuted.
