NLC, TUC express worry over non-payment of salaries in Zamfara

The Trade Union Congress and Nigeria Labour Congress, Zamfara State, have lamented the untold hardship workers face as the state government has not paid salaries for two consecutive months.

In a joint statement by the Chairmen of the two bodies, NLC and TUC, Sani Halliru and Saidu Mudi, said the state governor, Bello Matawalle, has not paid salaries for two months, describing his action as a condemnable and nonchalant attitude of the state government towards workers.

Recall that the governor, during the May Day celebration, had promised to pay all the accrued salary arrears.

However, the statement said after patiently waiting for the salary to be paid, the two labour centres, therefore, as a matter of responsibility, requested the state government to save the lives of workers and their families with immediate effect.

“Series of issues prevailed, and meetings were vigorously held in respect of the above subject matter involving all the stakeholders on the best way to handle the matter with maturity and understanding between the state government and two labour unions,” it said.
