The Niger State Government has commenced the disbursement of the sum of N1 billion in relief to victims of the recent flood that ravaged Madza and Anguwan Hausawa communities in Mokwa, Mokwa Local Government Area of the state.
Flagging off the disbursement in Mokwa, the state governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, represented by his deputy, Yakubu Garba, explained that the cash grant is aimed at providing immediate relief and temporary resettlement support for the victims.
He said, “Each household that was affected by the flood will receive N1 million relief funds. Shop owners, whose means of livelihood were disrupted, will receive N500,000 each.”
In addition to the cash grant, various food items were distributed to the affected families to ease their hardship.
Bago also disclosed that the state is still awaiting the Federal Government’s intervention in constructing permanent housing units for the displaced persons in the area.
According to him, the disbursement reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its citizens and its determination to ensure that no community is left behind in the recovery process.
The governor further expressed his administration’s readiness to collaborate with the Federal Government and other stakeholders to implement long-term solutions aimed at mitigating future disasters and building more resilient communities across the state.
