New Terrorist Group Lakurawa Kills 15 in Kebbi, Steals Large Herd of Cattle

A newly formed Jihadist group recently found to be terrorizing communities in Northwestern parts of Nigeria, Lakurawa, has attacked Mera, Kebbi State, leaving 15 people dead and a large number of cattle stolen.

The victims were laid to rest in the presence of Deputy Governor Umar Abubakar Tafida and Emir of Argungu, Sama’ila Muhammad Mera.

The group, which shares similarities with Boko Haram, has been imposing taxes and levies on locals, preaching against Western civilization and democratic governance.

Recall that the Nigerian Defence Headquarters recently confirmed the presence of the group in Sokoto and Kebbi states.

They are reported to have set up bases around the affected communities.

Confirming the attack, the Spokesperson for the police in Kebbi, SP Nafiu Abubakar, said, “Yes, there was a terrorist attack on Mera yesterday (Friday), resulting in 15 deaths.

“As of now we are yet to ascertain the identity of the attackers. It’s too early to confirm whether the attackers were from the Lakurawa group or not,” he added.
