National Youth Games: Ekiti governor recalls sports council boss over athletes’ poor kitting

Ekiti State Government has recalled the General manager of its Sports Council, Adekunle Adeyemi from the ongoing 7th National Youth Games, NYG, in Asaba, Delta State, following the outrage generated on the internet over the poor kits worn by contingents from the State.

There were concerns at the weekend over the viral photographs where contingents from Ekiti were seen in poor kits compared to other states during the opening ceremony of the competition.

Reacting to the development, Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Sunday, by the commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, recalled the sports council boss to account for the poor kitting of the state’s athletes at the ongoing competition.

The commissioner stated that the Governor was embarrassed by the show of events at the ceremony.

“The directive followed the shabby appearance of the State contingent at the march-past event during the opening ceremony of the National Youth Games.

“Adeyemi is directed to immediately hand over to the next most senior official at the Games and return home to explain circumstances leading to the shabby kitting of the state athletes, whose photograph is circulating on social media,” he said.

However, the Commissioner noted that the state Government made adequate provision for the team’s participation at the Games.
