Musa reveals stance on retirement from Super Eagles

Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa says only head coach, Jose Peseiro can stop him from playing for the team.

Peseiro was widely criticised for including Musa in his 23-man squad for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double header against Guinea-Bissau.

Musa stated at the start of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon that he would retire from international football at the end of the competition.

The versatile player, however, failed to keep to his words and has continued to make himself available for selection.

“In as much as I am being invited by the coach and my body can carry me, I will continue to play for Nigeria,” Musa told a press conference in Abuja.

“The coach who invited me knows better and as a patriotic Nigerian, I can’t decline my national team invitation after so much sacrifice.”

The 30-year-old remains the highest capped Nigeria player with 107 appearances.

Musa, who made his debut for the Super Eagles in 2010, has 16 goals to his name.
