Man docked for alleged reckless driving, damage to property

A 30-year old man, David Gideon, was on Thursday arraigned in a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged reckless driving and malicious damage.

Gideon, whose address is unknown, is standing trial on a two-count charge of reckless driving and malicious damage.

The prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Dec. 5, at about 4:30 p.m. on Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway Kaduna.

Leo said that the defendant allegedly drove a truck on the highway in a reckless manner without regards to other road users.

He also said that the defendant caused malicious damage to 5 shops property worth N4.2 million.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene the Road Traffic Laws of Kaduna State, 2017.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted him bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Emmanuel adjourned the case until Jan. 18, 2023 for hearing.
