The Lift Up Care Foundation (LUCAF) has donated tubers of yam to Stagi Comprehensive Orphanage, Adankolo, Lokoja, as part of efforts to support vulnerable members of society.
Presenting the items, LUCAF Programme Manager, Mr Mohammed Sumaila Onudoga, commended the matron of the orphanage, Mrs Clara Owoshagba, and members of staff for their dedication to the welfare of orphaned and vulnerable children under their care.
Onudoga acknowledged the sacrifices involved in providing the children with shelter, food, education and emotional support, saying the donation was aimed at complementing efforts to meet their nutritional needs.
He explained that LUCAF was committed to promoting agriculture, livelihoods and humanitarian services, adding that the yam tubers were harvested from the organisation’s annual farm project and donated to support feeding at the orphanage.
Receiving the donation, Owoshagba expressed appreciation to LUCAF for the gesture, describing it as timely and valuable.
She thanked the foundation for remembering the children and prayed for greater success, increased harvests and continued impact through its agricultural and humanitarian programmes.
Earlier, LUCAF had organised an auction of yam tubers to raise funds for the implementation of its charity programmes in communities.
Speaking during the auction, the Chairman of the Kogi NGOs Network (KONGONET), Hamza Aliyu, commended LUCAF for the initiative.
Aliyu, who was represented by the immediate past Chairman of KONGONET, Ambassador Idris Ozovehe Muraina, urged other organisations to emulate the foundation by supporting vulnerable people in their communities.
He also called on the government to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity, stressing that farmers needed safe access to their farms to boost food production and ensure food security.
He assured that KONGONET would continue to partner with civil society organisations to ensure that humanitarian services reached their intended beneficiaries.
