Kwara Govt Suspends School Graduation Ceremonies Over Security Concerns

‎The Kwara State Government has suspended all public and private schools from organising graduation, valedictory and other end-of-session ceremonies across the state.

‎The directive was contained in a letter signed by the Director of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs Bunmi Osanupin, on behalf of the Commissioner for Education, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe

‎Addressed to the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Raheem Adaramaja, the letter was made available to journalists in Ilorin on Friday.

‎According to the ministry, the decision was prompted by the prevailing security situation in the state and the need to ensure safety, order and discipline within school environments.

‎The government directed all school proprietors, principals, headteachers and administrators to comply strictly with the order.

‎“All school proprietors, principals, headteachers and administrators are required to ensure strict compliance with this directive,” the letter stated.

‎It warned that any school found violating the directive would face appropriate sanctions in line with existing regulations.

‎“Any school found to be in violation of this directive shall be liable to appropriate sanctions in accordance with existing regulations.

‎“By this notice, all concerned are advised to be guided accordingly,” the letter added.
