Kwankwaso’s defection may affect APC in Kano – Bashir Ahmad

‎Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad has said that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) may influence the fortune of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.

‎Kwankwaso, who was NNPP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election and a former governor of Kano State, announced his resignation from the party on March 29, 2026.

‎Reacting, Ahmad said the move could have some impact on APC’s prospects in Kano, but noted that the situation remains manageable.

‎“Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso’s move to another party may affect our performance in Kano. However, it is something we can handle,” he said.

‎He added that the party can still secure victory if it remains united and organised.
