Kogi govt condemns attack on SDP campaign office by suspected thugs

The Kogi State Government on Sunday condemned the destruction of properties belonging to the Social Democratic Party, SDP, campaign office in Lokoja.

Earlier reported that suspected thugs, in the wee hours of Sunday, invaded the SDP campaign office located along Paparanda Kpata market and destroyed billboards, showing the picture of President Bola Tinubu alongside the SDP Governorship Candidate for the November 11 election in Kogi State, Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka.

Reacting to the incident through a statement on Sunday evening, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, described the act as barbaric, undemocratic and unacceptable to the people and government of the state.

He said the state government would continue to support the freedom of anyone and everyone to aspire to positions in line with the ethos of democratic values.

Fanwo said, “Attacking the campaign office of any political party is criminal and would not be condoned.”

The commissioner called on security agencies in the state to investigate and apprehend perpetrators of the attack to bring them to justice and to warn hoodlums that the governorship election in the state will be decided by the ballots and not through the bullets.
