Kogi Assembly holds induction course for members-elect

The Kogi State House of Assembly has held an induction course for the 25 newly elected members of the state constituency.

The one-day induction course was held at the chambers of the Kogi State House of Assembly on Wednesday.

Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Legislative Matters, Hon Haruna Musa Idoko, advised the inductees to ensure peace and unity in the cause of their legislative duties, despite the fact that all of them are not of the same party.

While stressing the need to toe party lines during voting for the leadership of the House, he said doing otherwise would rock the boat of the state and would not be of benefit to them.

Musa noted that legislative business is not learnt elsewhere but on the job and stressed the need to be friendly with the legislative staff members who will be assisting them on the job.

Also speaking, the chairman of the Assembly Service Commission, Alhaji Andas Abdulmalik Momohjimoh, stressed the need for lawmakers to be well acquainted with their prospective aides.

According to Momohjimoh, prospective aides who will later be their image-makers should be capable of representing them anywhere.

Earlier in his lecture titled “Principles and Practise of Emotional Intelligence for Leaders,” retired Deputy Clerk, Administration and General Services, Martins Enimola, stressed the need for lawmakers to manage their emotions while making decisions, adding that lawmakers should identify themselves and the plights of their colleagues for effective and efficient performances.

Also in a lecture titled “Financial Guild to Budgeting,” a consultant from Ultimate Consultants, Lawal Lamidi, stressed the need for lawmakers to prioritise their needs and embark on productive ventures.

Other lectures include “Legislative Practice and Rule of Engagement” by Kogi State House of Assembly’s Deputy Clerk, Alfa Ndagi Ahmed and “Lawmaking Functions of Legislators Under the Presidential System” by Bamidele Suru.
