Kidnapped Kwara monarch regains freedom

‎Oba Simeon Ibiyinka Olaonipekun of Aafin Ile Ire, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, who was kidnapped by bandits last year has regained his freedom.


‎News reports that the monarch was abducted by the assailants on December 32, 2025 alongside his son.


‎However, the son was reportedly released earlier after N20 million was paid.


‎It was gathered that the monarch regained his freedom on Thursday morning after an additional N12 million was paid to his abductors.


‎The Police Public Relations Officer, of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi could not be reached for comment at press time.


‎However, reports indicate that the ransom was raised through community and private contributions.
