KASA Pulls Down 76 Illegal Signboards, Improves IGR

The Kano State Signage and Advertisement Agency (KASA) has disclosed that it has removed no fewer than 76 illegal signboards erected across different parts of the state as part of efforts to enforce compliance with advertising regulations and improve revenue generation.

The Director General of the Agency, Comrade Kabir Dakata, made the disclosure on Wednesday during an interactive session with journalists under the auspices of the Association of Kano Online Journalists (ASKOJ) in Kano.

Dakata said the agency has been working closely with the state Ministries of Environment and Works to ensure that advertising activities align with environmental sustainability goals and public safety standards across the state.

According to him, since assuming office, the agency has embarked on extensive consultations with relevant stakeholders to harmonize interests and establish a framework that supports effective product promotion without compromising environmental regulations.

He explained that the collaboration is designed to create mutual benefits for businesses seeking to advertise their products while also supporting government efforts toward environmental protection and increased internally generated revenue.

The KASA boss further stated that the agency is solely responsible for ensuring that advertisers comply with existing state laws by erecting only approved signboards in designated locations and using standard-grade materials that do not pose risks to the public.

Dakata revealed that through continuous monitoring and enforcement, the agency identified and removed illegal signboards after obtaining court orders.

He noted that the exercise has helped block revenue leakages, stressing that the establishment of KASA by Governor has restored order in the advertising sector.

He added that revenue is now being generated through the Central Billing System (CBS), while preparations are being made to brief the governor and the public on the amount generated so far.
