Kano NDC gov candidate picks Kwankwaso’s son as running mate

‎The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, has picked Mustapha Kwankwaso as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.

‎The development was confirmed to reporters on Monday by Gwarzo’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Shuaibu.

‎Shuaibu said the decision followed consultations with party stakeholders and aimed to strengthen the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.

‎He described Mustapha Kwankwaso as a committed party member whose selection would further consolidate the party’s support across the state.

‎“The governorship candidate of our great party, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has selected Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election in Kano State,” Shuaibu said.

‎According to him, the choice reflects the party’s commitment to unity, inclusiveness and effective representation.

‎Mustapha is the son of the National Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

‎His emergence is expected to further strengthen the influence of the Kwankwasiyya movement within the NDC as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections.

‎Gwarzo, a former Deputy Governor of Kano State, emerged as the NDC’s governorship candidate following consultations among party leaders and stakeholders.

‎Political observers believe the selection of Mustapha Kwankwaso could play a significant role in shaping political alignments in Kano State ahead of the governorship contest.
