The Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Kano/Jigawa Command has generated the sum of N14,016,722,483.81k as revenue collected between the months of January to April 2022.
The Area Comptroller M.A Umar who made the disclosure on Tuesday stated that the amount generated shows an increase of 44.97% increase compared to N9,668,650,451.41k collected within same period last year.
Also within the period under review, the command made arrest and seizure of prohibited goods with Duty Paid Value of N1,966,115,027.15.
Some of the goods confiscated include; 1,593 50kg of foreign rice, 1,237 foreign soaps, 34,940 sachets of hard drugs, 131 bale of second hand clothes amongst others illegally imported into the country which contravened sections 46 of CEMA CAP C45 LFN 2004 (as amended).
Umar while speaking on measures put in place by the command to further forestall and reduce activities of smugglers to the bearest minimum, revealed that the Rapid Response Team of the command is scheduled to attend a training exercise in a short while to improve their combat readiness in other to enhance their performances in combating smuggling activities.
The Area Comptroller warned smugglers to desist from the act or meet their Waterloo because the consequences of smuggling are dire on the nation’s economy.
However, the Customs Boss stressed that the Kano Jigawa/ Area Command is ready and willing to collaborate with stakeholders to provide enabling environment for business to thrive in the interest of trade facilitation while inviting all genuine business men to come explore the advantages in the Area Command such as Availability of Inland Container Terminals amongst others.
Meanwhile, some selected Officers where awarded during the press conference on Tuesday for their outstanding performances which has yielded positive results and successes recorded so far.
