Kano Govt begins payment of N6bn backlog of gratuities to pensioners

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has begun the payment of over N6 billion outstanding gratuities to pensioners.

Yusuf revealed this on Saturday during the start of payments to select categories of retirees at Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.

He said that his administration inherited a massive backlog of retiree pensions and benefits, noting that many of the pensioners died without getting their payments.

“As you are aware, the eight years of the last administration witnessed neglect of so many sectors which includes deductions of monthly pension illegally

“We made promises during the campaign that we will pay pension gratuities and also curtail monthly pension deduction if given the mandate, today we are fulfilling our promise despite the competing demands.”

He stated that the payment would continue and that the total backlog of over N48 billion in pension and gratuities would be cleared shortly.

He urged the recipients to use their benefits wisely.
