The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, stated this while briefing journalists at the command’s headquarters in Bompai, Kano State.
Bakori said the ban was introduced by the state government after consultations with relevant security agencies to safeguard public peace and maintain law and order.
He expressed concern over reported violations of the directive, saying the security concerns that prompted the restriction remained.

The commissioner said a joint security meeting had resolved that individuals, institutions or organisations wishing to organise durbar or horse-riding activities in public places must submit written requests to the police command at least 72 hours before the event.
He explained that the notice would allow the police and other security agencies to conduct security assessments and make adequate arrangements for the safety of participants and members of the public.
Bakori urged residents, traditional institutions and event organisers to comply with the directive and cooperate with security agencies.
He assured residents that the command and other security agencies remained committed to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace across the state.
