Kano Assembly to screen Garo for deputy governor Monday

The Kano State House of Assembly has fixed Monday for the screening of Hon. Murtala Sule Garo following his nomination as Deputy Governor by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

‎The development was disclosed in a Facebook post on Wednesday by Kamaludden Shawai, spokesperson to the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Falgore.

‎According to the post, the Assembly has officially received correspondence from the governor on Garo’s nomination for screening and approval.

‎“The Kano State House of Assembly has officially received correspondence of His Excellency’s nominee for the office of Deputy Governor for proper screening and approval,” the statement read.

‎It added that the screening of Garo has been scheduled to take place on Monday.

‎News reports that Governor Yusuf had earlier transmitted the name of Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo to the Assembly for screening and confirmation.

‎The nomination was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.

‎According to the statement, the nomination was made in line with Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers a governor to nominate a deputy governor where a vacancy exists.


‎The deputy governorship position became vacant following the resignation of former Deputy Governor, Abdussalam Gwarzo, on March 27, 2026.
