I’ve returned as Lagos Assembly Speaker, Obasa declares

Mudashiru Obasa, the impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has declared himself the rightful leader of the state legislature, insisting he has resumed office despite his removal on January 13, 2025.

Obasa stormed the Assembly Complex on Thursday, February 27, under heavy security, accompanied by police officers and operatives of the State Security Service (SSS).

“I’ve resumed, and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” Obasa announced to journalists upon his arrival.

His return comes amid a deepening leadership crisis, with reports confirming that security aides attached to the current Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, were withdrawn earlier in the day, leaving her without official protection.

Sources within the Assembly revealed that Obasa was flanked by armed policemen and thugs as he forcefully gained access to the Speaker’s Office, bypassing his colleagues, who were gathered in the Assembly’s garden.
