IShowSpeed reportedly rejects YouTube paycut, says $800k monthly salary too small

‎Popular American online streamer and YouTuber, IShowSpeed, has reportedly rejected a YouTube pay cut, with claims that his monthly earnings are around $800,000, which is approximately N1.2 billion.

‎The information, which is currently making rounds online, was shared by media personality Daddy Freeze while he defended content creator Peller against critics urging him to return to school.

‎While speaking on the matter, Daddy Freeze cited IShowSpeed as an example of how profitable digital content creation can be when done at a global level.

‎According to Freeze, the streamer allegedly earns about $800,000 monthly and still considers the amount relatively small compared to the level of effort and consistency required to maintain his brand and content output.

‎He said, “IShowSpeed just complained that YouTube only pays him $800,000 a month. That’s 1.2 billion naira a month and the money is too small for the amount of work he’s putting in. And you say make Peller leave wetin he dey do, make he come join you for school?

‎Do you make $100,000 a year? You in Canada, America and the UK, some of you don’t even make $200,000 a year. See the kind of figures these boys are calling.”

‎According to Daddy Freeze, secondary school education remains the only level of schooling that is compulsory.

‎He explained that professional fields such as medicine, law, engineering, and pharmacy still require formal university education and certification to practice.

‎However, he questioned the necessity of higher education for individuals who are already succeeding in the creative and digital content space.

‎While some Nigerians supported Freeze’s stance, others insisted that formal education offers structure, knowledge depth, and long-term security beyond the uncertain nature of internet fame.

‎It will be recalled that IShowSpeed visited Nigeria a few weeks ago during his African tour to celebrate his 21st birthday.

‎During the visit, content creator Peller reportedly attempted to meet the streamer but was allegedly denied access by his security team.

‎The discussion continues to trend online as many people debate the balance between formal education and financial success in today’s fast-evolving digital economy.
