Infighting, threat to PDP’s victory – Ekiti APC chieftain, Odeyemi warns

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Tunji Odeyemi has urged the aggrieved members to sheathe their swords and join the ongoing efforts to return the party to power.

The former acting governor in Ekiti State also cautioned the aggrieved members against taking a hard stance which may affect the chances and success of the party in the 2023 presidential election.

Odeyemi gave this admonition in a chat with journalists in Ado-Ekiti.

The PDP leader specifically appealed to all caucuses and groups in Ekiti to bury their hatchet and unite to forge a common front.

He lamented that “we seemed not to have learnt any lesson from the needless internal bickering which cost us victory in the last governorship election in Ekiti. The PDP as a political party has never got such a poor and scandalous outing in the history of Ekiti. This is what ego and unbridled interest and ambition could do to a hitherto healthy party ”

“Politics is about interest and negotiation and I recognise the right to make demands but such demands must not jeopardize the overall interest of the party. We have only one goal, one assignment and one responsibility which is to ensure the return of the PDP to power.

Nigerians have given us the green light as a party and we must not fritter away this golden opportunity.

“Thank God our party has given us a formidable candidate in the person of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar who has the capacity to resolve whatever issue. We need to give him our maximum support to win this election.

“This is certainly not the best time to fight. Though rancour and disquiet are not unexpected in a big party like ours but the ability to sacrifice personal interest shall make the party excel on all fronts. No honest and committed member of the PDP will pray that the party crumbles at this crucial time when the journey to Aso Rock is almost concluded.

“With the present situation, I doubt if any aggrieved member of our party will get a better offer from any other political party what he or she cannot get in the PDP. Our strength lies in winning the all-important 2023 Presidential election ” Odeyemi said.

He advised the Rivers State Governor and his team to reconsider their stance and assume their rightful leadership roles.
