INEC Declares Winner of Zamfara Assembly By-Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the Kaura-Namoda South Constituency by-election in Zamfara State.

The Returning Officer, Professor Lawal Sa’adu of the Federal University, Gusau, announced the final result after the supplementary votes were collated.

Final results released on Friday showed the APC polled 8,182 votes to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which secured 5,543 votes.

The election had earlier been declared inconclusive after voting was cancelled in five polling units due to irregularities. The margin between the leading APC candidate and the PDP runner-up was less than the number of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collected in the affected units, prompting INEC to fix a supplementary poll.

The supplementary election was held on Thursday, August 21.
