Ijaw Nation President Speaks on Fubara’s Possible Defection to APC

President of the Ijaw National Congress, Professor Benjamin Okaba, has expressed support for a potential move by the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He made the remark on Friday during a programme on Channels Television.

According to Okaba, such a switch should not be viewed as controversial, given the fluid nature of Nigeria’s political landscape.

“At this point, we have to be realistic and understand the character of Nigerian politics; we don’t have political parties anymore — what we have is platforms to contest elections,” he stated during the broadcast.

Governor Fubara was suspended from office in March by President Bola Tinubu amid escalating tensions with his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Fubara met with President Tinubu on Monday in Lagos fueling rumours of reconciliation efforts.
