Hungar: Cross River workers, TUC members boycott NLC protest

Members of Trade Union Congress, TUC, as well as government workers in Cross River State, boycotted Tuesday’s protest march organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in Calabar.

The protest was declared to draw attention to the high cost of living across the country.

Similar marches were reported in other states.

The protest in Calabar was titled, ‘NLC, Cross River, Mega Rally Against Government Oppressive Policies’.

NLC members had trooped to their secretariat early in the morning but TUC members stayed away.

The absence of TUC did not stop offices at the Federal Secretariat from being under lock and key.

However, the state secretariat was open with state civil servants seen going about their normal duties.

NLC chairman, Gregory Olayi, said, “There’s hardship in the country. Nigerians are experiencing terrible times. Many Nigerians are dying of hunger, starvation and high costs of living.

“There’s hyperinflation. Nigerians cannot afford anything anymore. We say no to the hardship in the nation.”
