He’s No. 10 – McCoist tells Arsenal best position for Havertz

Former Rangers and Scotland star Ally McCoist has told Arsenal the perfect position to play Chelsea forward Kai Havertz if they succeed in signing the Germany international from the west London side.

He said he is completely behind the Gunners’ move to sign Havertz from Chelsea and opined that the German is perfect for Mikel Arteta’s style.

Havertz has emerged as a top target for Arsenal in the last few days, and talks have reportedly escalated this week.

Chelsea are open to letting many top stars leave Stamford Bridge this summer as they look to trim the squad and get things ready before Mauricio Pochettino takes over on July 1.

McCoist noted that the Blues have been playing the Germany international out of position, which is the reason for the player’s downfall.

He said: “I’m telling you right now he’s been playing out of position, without a doubt, never a centre-forward. But I think he’s a top player. I really think he’s a top player as a number 10 or a midfielder.

“He’s in no way an out-and-out centre-forward for me. It does not surprise me that the clubs you’ve mentioned are in for him. He’s more forward-thinking; he’s a number 10 effectively. I like him, I really do.”

The German forward helped the Blues win the Champions League and the Club World Cup between 2021 and 2022.
