Gunshots as protesters invade Cross River Govt House over death of students

‎Students of Cross River State University on Monday staged a violent protest in Calabar, the state capital, over the death of their colleagues.

‎It was gathered that some students of the university had travelled for a friendly football match in Uyo but were involved in a ghastly accident on their way back to Calabar.

‎Sources said three of the students were later confirmed dead, as a hospital allegedly refused to attend to them.

‎The protesters destroyed some government facilities and headed to the governor’s office when security operatives allegedly opened fire to disperse them.

‎In a video clip making the rounds, several gunshots were heard as the protesters fled for safety.

‎Efforts by reporters to reach the Cross River Police Command for comment proved unsuccessful as of press time.
