Gunmen kill 13 farmers in Niger, Deputy gov fumes

Gunmen have reportedly killed 13 persons on their farms in the Anguwan Mai-Giro community of Shiroro Local Government in Niger State.

The attack occurred on Wednesday.

In a statement on Thursday, the state Deputy Governor , Yakubu Garba,
described the attack as “satanic, insensible, atrocious and callous.”

Garba said it is “utterly appalling and deeply disturbing” to see people perpetrate such a “barbaric and vicious act” against fellow humans.

The deputy governor expressed condolences to the grieving families, residents, and the Shiroro community.

He added that the state government remains resolute in its quest to restore peace and security across Niger.

He asked security agencies to remain steadfast and undeterred in their efforts, promising them full support in their battle against criminal elements.

In March, bandits abducted over 20 women during an attack on a market in the Madaka community, Rafi LGA of Niger state.

Attacks on farmers in Nigeria’s northern region have worsened the country’s food security crisis.
