Group launches action in Enugu community

Worried by the level of political apathy being witnessed in elections across the country, a socio-political organisation, Amuma Support Group, in collaboration with all political parties has commenced political socialization in Inyi, Oji River Local Government Area Enugu state ahead of next round of elections.

Despite efforts in the past, most Nigerians kept aloof from politicking to stay away from the electioneering process owing to their lack of faith in the system.

But in a statement made available to journalists by the convener, Hon. Ogoo Ihemezue, he said the group had scheduled a political summit themed: “War Against Political Apathy”.

While describing political apathy as one of the major reasons for under-development, he said “we cannot sit on the fence and complain about the outcome of the process.

“We also do not have the moral right to demand stewardship from our elected representatives if we refuse to be part of the process.

“This is why we have decided to organise this programme ahead of future elections in order to awaken the political consciousness of our people”.

“When we are all politically aware, it will also foster peace and unity among all the political parties, stakeholders and the people.”

He added that the event, which would be held on December 2nd 2023 at the Customary Court, Inyi, was the first in the series.

Ihemezue urged all the citizens to continue keeping faith with the system by performing their obligations.
