Gombe State Government and the state university branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, have reached an agreement to end weeks of strike action over a number of demands presented by the union.
Recall that the state varsity ASUU had declared a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike on the 11th of September 2024, bringing all academic activities to a halt.
However, a series of meetings with the state government resulted to the approval of a total of N947 million at the executive council meeting presided over by Governor Inuwa Yahaya on Thursday, aimed at offsetting staff promotions and earned academic allowances, EAA.
With this latest development to resolving the issue, academic activities are set to resume in few days as all machinery for the reopening of the university are already set in motion.
The Deputy Governor, Manassah Jatau, while speaking on behalf of the Governor, expressed confidence that the truce reached through signing of documents by both parties would foster greater synergy for an uninterrupted teaching and learning in the state-owned university.
