Galaxy Backbone To Partner With Media On Digital Drive

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone, Prof. Muhammed Abubakar, has called on the media for a mutually beneficial partnership to drive the digital economy to the public. 

He made the Call over the weekend at a two-day capacity building organised for members of the National Information Technology Reporters Association (NITRA), Abuja Chapter. 

The two-day capacity building workshop was organised between Thursday 13th and Friday 14th October 2022, and was intended to equip the journalists with the skills required to professionally report the IT world and to also advance cyber security awareness among vulnerable Nigerians. 

Represented by the Senior Manager in the Company, Mr. Ifedayo Balogun, Galaxy Backbone, he says there’s needs for Galaxy Backbone to provide the right information to the public, MDAs and the private sector.

” So we need you the media to help us push this developmental information especially on the Nigeria’s digital economy drive to the public and for GBB, we see that as win-win situation or as a marriage because inputs determine the output.

“You have spent some days here and I’m sure that you people already know some of the things that we do and the services that we provide and I can see that a lot of knowledge sharing and transfer and I’m surprised by the number of questions that were asked here today and I’m happy that answers were provided by my colleagues today”.

“I must say thank you very much for your attention and it is believed that this will certainly not be end of our relationship and partnership as it is just the beginning and we at GBB we have our corporate policy”.

Giving his closing remarks, the President of NITRA, Abuja Chapter, Mr Blessing Olaifa, thanked the management of GBB for organising the capacity building programme for its members,adding that there is no training in this digital era in ICT that is little especially from the quantum of knowledge acquisition that have been impacted on we the journalists.

He assured  the Association of more partnership with GBB in information drive on digital economy.

“We have also been made to know other statutory responsibilities which we initially taught was the purview of other agencies. 

“We were impressed to know what the agency is working tirelessly to stop and mitigate attack on the cyber space.

” He appeal for more publicity on the side of GBB especially on the unique and critical services that they are rendering especially actualizing the vision and mission of federal government digital economy road map”.

With the increasing spate of attacks in the cyber space it has become necessary to equip the ICT Reporters to bridge the information deficit in the sector.

Galaxy Backbone (GBB), is a parastatal under the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy and its mandate is  to build a common services platform consisting of in-country and offshore VSAT hubs, a datacenter, Federal Capital metro fiber backbone and multiple redundant internet gateways.
