Former Nigerian Senator Confirmed Dead

Death has been reported of a former military governor of Katsina State and one-time senator representing Benue North-East, retired Colonel Joseph Akaagerger.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Benue State Government on Tuesday.

According to the statement signed by Mr. Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Hyacinth Alia., Col. Akaagerger died on Thursday, May 15, at the age of 69.

Governor Alia, reacting to the news, expressed sorrow over the sudden demise of the elder statesman, describing him as “a patriotic Nigerian who gave the nation and Benue State his very best during his time.”

Reflecting on his contributions to national development, the Governor noted that the late Colonel was not only a distinguished lawmaker but also made his mark in “politics, business, community service and philanthropy.”
