The newly appointed Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru in Yobe State, Professor Hadiza Usman has expressed her commitment to work with all staff as well as pledged to upgrade the standard of the centre by building on the successes of her predecessors.
Professor Usman disclosed this immediately after she took over the mantle of leadership from the acting Chief Medical Director, Doctor Adamu Abdullahi who doubles as the Head of Clinical Services and Training at the centre.
In a press statement made available to journalists by Giwa Oyindamola Toyin, the acting head of the Information and Public Relations Unit of the centre indicated the new CMD has vast experience in gynaecology oncology.
The new CMD, a Professor of Reproductive Health and Gynecology Oncology, Professor Hadiza Usman was born on October 9, 1966. Until her appointment, she was a professor at the University of Maiduguri, Borno State and a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. She is the immediate past Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
Professor Usman is a fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWAS) and a fellow of the World Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons (WLS). She has fellowship and membership of several other professional bodies and has served in various capacities during her professional career which has spanned almost three decades.
She is a renowned physician, a promoter of reproductive health and an erudite scholar with over 40 publications to her credit. Professor Usman is happily married with children.
With her new appointment, the residents of the area are optimistic the rate of mortality and morbidity experienced in the area would be reduced to its barest minimum.
