Fish out attackers of Showunmi, other PDP members – Reps candidate, Amuzu tells police

Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Toyin Amuzu has charged the police in Ogun State to fish out those behind Monday’s alleged attack on Segun Showunmi and other PDP members at the State election petition tribunal sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta.

Amuzu called on the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Department of State Services, DSS, to direct investigations into the security lapses and “fish out the perpetrators of such dastardly acts.”

Amuzu, whose petition is also before the tribunal, described the attack on Showunmi and other PDP members as “a barbaric act.”

The Egba chief claimed that the attack was aimed at instilling fear and disrupting the proceedings of the tribunal.

According to him, the hoodlums were mobilized by political leaders, who he said are in mortal fear that “the APC’s manipulations and rigging in the gubernatorial election will be exposed at the tribunal.”

Amuzu stressed that the attack was a direct assault on the judiciary and the tribunal, adding that it was a serious threat to the sustenance of democracy in Nigeria and Ogun.

He expressed worries that the attack occurred in the full glare of security agents.

“Ogun is known for peace and high standards. No one should turn the state into a theatre of violence. The people of Ogun demand that those behind the attack must be tracked down and brought to book immediately,” he said.

He charged PDP members to remain calm as the party takes all legal steps to pursue its cases at the tribunal.
