Fight for Super Six spot, relegation battle dominate NPFL matchday 16

The battle for a place in the Super Six came to the fore last weekend with the top teams jostling for crucial points.

Bendel Insurance sealed their place in the Super Six following a 0-0 draw against Gombe United with two games remaining in the regular season.

Enyimba moved to second position behind Insurance in Group A after recording a slim 1-0 victory against El-Kanemi in Maiduguri.

The People’s Elephant must secure at least a win from their remaining two games to guarantee a place in the Super Six.

Remo Stars defeated Akwa United 1-0 in Ikenne to boost their chances of making the Super Six.

Junior Nduka scored the winning goal from the spot late in the first half.

Akwa United dropped to third position, while Remo Stars remained in fifth position.

The battle for Super Six spot in Group B remains close with Lobi Stars, Doma United, Abia Warriors, Rivers United and Niger Tornadoes all still within a chance of scaling through.

Rangers and Bayelsa United picked up important victories to keep their chances of escaping relegation alive.
