Female student killed, mutilated after meeting Facebook friend in Ilorin

Tragedy struck in Ilorin, Kwara State, as a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education, Yetunde Lawal, was gruesomely murdered and dismembered after meeting a man she connected with on Facebook.

The suspect, 29-year-old Islamic teacher Abdulrahman Bello, was arrested by the Kwara State Police Command on Saturday for his alleged involvement in the crime.

According to sources, Bello had lured 25-year-old Lawal to his residence in Ganmo, on the outskirts of Ilorin, after initiating contact through social media and a phone call on February 10, 2025.

She was last seen that day after leaving a naming ceremony before receiving a call suspected to be from Bello.

Lawal was later declared missing by her father, Ibrahim Lawal, who reported the case at the Oja-Oba Police Division on February 11, prompting an immediate investigation.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, stated, “Police detectives tracked her number, leading to the arrest of a suspect. Exhibits were recovered, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations.”

Initially, Bello denied any knowledge of Lawal’s whereabouts. However, after a thorough search of his residence, the police discovered her dismembered body parts in a bowl.

The suspect later claimed that she had died from an asthma attack before he disposed of her remains.

The police have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to ensure justice for the victim.
