The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to the nation’s capital that the FCT administration is committed to providing enabling environment required for their safety and welfare.
She said this at the swearing-in ceremony for the 2024 Batch B stream 1 orientation course at the NYSC permanent camp in Kubwa, Abuja, on Tuesday.
The Minister, who was represented by the Mandate Secretary, Social Development Secretariat, Honourable Ibrahim Aminu, said the FCT administration has an unwavering faith in the scheme, hence the need to provide the needed environment for the safety of corps members.
According to her, “over the decades now, implementation has proven that the orientation courses is a veritable transformational agent for leadership training and nation building.
“The trainings in camp are designed to prepare corps members fresh from theoretical environment for the reality of self and national development. Therefore, always engage yourselves in activities that are beneficial to you during your service year.”
The FCT NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka, advised the corps members to take the entrepreneurship training for self reliance seriously.
She warned the corps members to desist from drugs abuse and other anti-social activities, vowing that such would not be tolerated in camp.
Reports stated that a total number of 2,473 corps members registered for the orientation course, comprising of 961 males and 1512 females.
