Nasiru Abdullahi Mai Kano, a top ally of Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has emerged as the interim chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
It was gathered that Mai Kano, a former lawmaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly who represented Unguwar Sanusi Constituency was appointed as interim chairman of the party on Thursday, March 6.
The newly appointed chairman alongside other executives of the party would be expected to serve in their various capacities for three months.
Sources within the SDP said their tenure as executives of the party is subject to a review at the expiration of the three months.
The source also said more allies of the former governor are expected to join the SDP soon.
He said, “We are expecting more of our people to join the party soon.”
Confirming the development, the Caretaker Committee’s Legal Adviser for SDP, Muhammad Zaria, said, “Yes, Nasiru Mai Kano is the interim chairman of Kaduna SDP. The Secretary-General is Iriniya Kantiyok, and the Vice Chairman is Honourable Mas’ud.”
