EPL: I let my teammates down – Bruno Fernandes on red card against Tottenham

Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes, has admitted he let his team-mates down following his red card against Tottenham on Sunday.

With United losing 1-0 in the first half, Fernandes was given his marching orders for a high tackle on James Maddison.

Spurs scored twice after the break through Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke, to leave Old Trafford with three points.

The result leaves Erik ten Hag’s men with seven points from six games in 12th place.

Fernandes, speaking to Sky Sports after the game, said: “I let my teammates down with one man down. I do appreciate everything they did on the pitch, it was tough for them.

“We didn’t start the game well. When it’s 11 vs 11, the result is on their side then we get the situation with the red card.

“They did very well, they tried. We conceded another two goals, but it was difficult to cover all the spaces.

“It’s many good things we can take from this. The resilience of the team was there and I’m proud of them.”
