Enugu Govt launches Nigeria Learning Passport

The Enugu State Government, on Thursday, formally launched the Nigeria Learning Passport.

Commissioner for Education, Prof. Uche Eze performed the ceremony on behalf of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi at the College of Immaculate Conception, CIC, Enugu.

Eze said Enugu State was happy to key into the scheme, as technology had become an indispensable tool in education.

The Commissioner told the audience that, “no society can effectively educate their children without technology.

“Technology has made learning easy and cheap. Many pupils spend data on irrelevant things, but if we devote such energy in using this app, our education system will receive a boost.

“If we help our children to learn, we are helping the society to grow.

“Parents who help their children to cheat are destroying such ones but we will not allow that.”

The Commissioner assured that quality content would be uploaded on the app, stressing that “the best of hands will develop the content on different topics based on the curriculum and we will have them uploaded on the app.

“This means that the issue of students complaining about some difficult topics will no longer be there. Even those in adult education, they will not have access to quality teaching.

“It is for free, for every Nigerian that is interested in quality education.”

Eze appreciated the development partners, including UNICEF, the Global Partnership for Education, and the Federal Ministry of Health for always partnering with the Enugu State Government.

“UNICEF has been a partner and it is still assisting us in this important project,” he noted.

Earlier, the representative of UNICEF at the event, Dr. Hillary Ozoh, said the organization remained committed to the education and overall development of children.

“UNICEF is part and parcel of this project because no investment made in children is a waste.

“You can always count on us because we are here for the children; they are the future. Anything that will help the child to develop, whether in or out of the school, we will be happy to support it,” he assured.

In a remark, Mr. Celestine Ngwu, the Enugu State coordinator of the project, said the teachers and the State’s team would double efforts towards content development.
